Dulces horas de domingo / Sweet Sunday time

Hay veces en las que la creatividad va por libre. Está ahí, como latente, sin que te des cuenta y de repente ¡click!, salta la liebre. Eso fue exactamente lo que me pasó cuando vi este reloj tan majo. Mi cabeza, sin ser yo muy consciente de ello, lo puso sobre una peana y lo vio lleno de dulces mucho antes de que me diera tiempo a pensar siquiera si lo iba a comprar o no. Cuando lo asimilé, lo vi tan claro que no entendía cómo no se me había ocurrido antes. { There are times that creativity goes free. It's there, as dormant, and suddenly, without realizing it, click!. That's exactly what happened to me when I saw this very nice clock. My head, without being very conscious of it, put it on a pedestal and saw it full of sweets long before I had time to even think if I was going to buy it or not. When assimilated, I saw it so clearly that I did not understand how had not happened before. }

Así que así lo hice. El proceso fue muy parecido al de la mesita-reloj: primero reloj, después peana, y de la nada apareció ante mí el soporte para dulces más bonito del mundo. { So I did it. The process was very similar to the creation of the clock-table: first the clock, then the stand, and from the nothing it appeared to me the most beautiful sweets stand of the world. }

Así que a la primera oportunidad, ahí que lo planté. La merienda del domingo fue todo un éxito: maravillosa compañía, charla genial con miles de frentes abiertos y cientos de historias que contar, dulces traídos directamente de una Valencia en fallas, y una mesa digna de Alicia en el país de las maravillas. Qué bien se siente uno cuando se rodea de cosas bonitas, y más si son hechas a mano y por ti mismo. ¿Qué os parece? ¡A mí me encanta!. { So, at the first opportunity, I used it with my guests. The Sunday supper was a success: wonderful company, great conversation with hundreds of stories to tell, sweets brought directly from a Valencia in "fallas", and a table worthy of Alice in Wonderland. How good it feels to be surrounded by beautiful things, and much more if they are handmade by yourself. What do you think? I love it!. }

Mi armarito azul: decorando con color / My blue cabinet: decorating with color

La entrada de hoy fue una de las primeras que planee cuando pensé en esto de hacer un blog pero, cuestiones de la vida, ha tardado mucho más en ver la luz de lo que pensé. Os presento mi armarito azul, el orgullo de mi salón. { Today's post was one of the first I thought when I planned to blog, but life issues, has taken much longer to see the light of what I thought. Cuando lo encontré en una casa antigua y maravillosa del centro de Madrid, estaba hecho una pena, sucio, destartalado y lleno lleno de grasa por todos los poros de su preciosa madera azul. { When I found it in a wonderful old house in the center of Madrid, was indeed a shame, dirty, dilapidated and filled full of fat from every pore of his beautiful blue wood. }

Por suerte, el abuelillo que había sido su dueño conservaba la pintura original con la que una y mil veces había pintado esos tablones, así que imaginaos mi felicidad al saber que podría restaurarlo con el mismo color. Lo primero que hice fue desmontarlo entero y limpiarlo a conciencia con litros de agua, jabón y amoniaco. Luego decidí que era demasiado bonito para no lucirlo por dentro tanto como por fuera, así que lo forré papel pintado. { Luckily, the gran-dad who had been her own retained the original painting which with a thousand times had painted these boards, so imagine my happiness to know that I could restore with the same color. Los papeles los encontré también en la casa. Eran los mismos que decoraban las paredes (cada habitación tenía uno y eran una maravilla), y que el señor en cuestión había guardado cuidadosamente por si alguna vez tenía que renovarlos, ¡y que ahora yo heredaba gracias a su  buen hacer!. Como era imposible decidirse sólo por uno, decidí usar dos, uno en la parte de arriba y otro en la de abajo. Pero claro, para que se lucieran tenía que abrir las puertas, así que sustituí los dos cuarterones de arriba por tela de gallinero. { I also found the papers in the house. They were the same that decorated the walls (each room had one and they were really wonderful), and that the gentleman in question had carefully saved in case he ever had to renew, and now I inherited them by his good work!. As it was impossible to choose only one, I decided to use two, one on the upper part and one on the lower one. But to get they could be appreciated I had to open the doors, so I replaced both quarters above by chicken wire. }

Mi pequeño armario azul es la niña de mis ojos. Además de servirme para guardar cosas tan preciadas como mi juego de café de porcelana o la lata de Cola Cao de la abuela, aporta ese toque de color tan maravilloso que le da vida a todo el salón. Me siento especialmente orgullosa de él, por lo bonito que ha quedado pero, sobre todo, por el trabajo que me llevó. { My little blue cabinet is the apple of my eye. Besides serving to keep things as precious as my coffee set porcelain or the Cola Cao can from Grandma, brings that wonderful touch of color that gives life to all the living room. I am especially proud of him, so that it is very nice, but especially for the work that it took to me. }

Juego de café colección Des-Enjaulados / Un-Caged collection coffe set

Mi amor a las jaulas tenía que materializarse más allá de las que tengo repartidas por toda la casa. Cuando me propuse crear un juego de café original quería que las tazas tuvieran un nexo, algo que las enlazara con un tema común, pero que no resultara repetitivo. Y así, sin darme cuenta, me vi dibujando jaulas y más jaulas una tras otra. { My love for birdcages had to materialize beyond those which I have scattered throughout my house. When I decided to create an original coffee set I wanted they have a nexus, something that would link them with a common theme, but it should not be repetitive. And so, without realizing it, I was drawing more and more cages one by one. }

Eso sí, adoro las jaulas, pero también amo la libertad, y una de las cosas que más me horroriza es ver animales atrapados entre paredes o rejas, sobre todo aquellos a los que la evolución dotó de algo tan maravilloso como las alas. Así que, como no podían faltar pájaros en esta colección, los he sacado de las jaulas. ¡Así sí!. { Yes, I love cages, but I also love freedom, and one of the things that horrifies me is to see animals trapped between walls or fences, especially those who the evolution gave something as wonderful as the wings. So, as birds must be present in this collection, I have drawn them out the cages. In this way yes! }

HMMD Inspiration: De tela a cuadro / From fabric to canvas

Querid@s Handmademaníac@s, hoy os traemos una entrada de las que inspiran a crear. Cuando vi este mapa tan maravilloso por primera vez en el "DIY show Madrid" me enamoré de él, pero tonta de mí no lo compré en ese momento por... no sé, cosas que hace una y de las que luego se arrepiente durante mucho tiempo. Pero tuve la enorme suerte de volver a verlo, esta vez en el "Nómada Market" (100% recomendable), y entonces sí que no lo dudé ni un momento: tenía que ser mío y tenía muy claro lo que iba a hacer con él. { Dear Handmademaniacs, today we bring you a post that inspire to create. When I saw this wonderful map for the first time in the "Madrid DIY show" I fell in love with him but, silly me, I didn´t buy it at that moment... I do not know why, things that sometimes we do and later repent for a long time. But I was lucky enough to see it again, this time in the "Nómada Market" (100% recommended), and then I didn´t hesitate it: it would be mine and I knew very well what I was going to do with it. }

Para poder colgarlo tenía que darle una estructura, puesto que no quería que colgara de la pared como un trapillo. Así que me fui al centro de bricolaje más cercano y compré unos listones de pino de 2 x 1,5 cm. para hacer un bastidor. Medí y remedí para que quedara perfectamente ajustado y corté los listones. No os preocupéis en exceso si los listones más cortos se van algún milímetro (1 o 2 mm. es normal si los cortáis vosotros), porque luego se ajustan con los tornillos. Con la ayuda de una escuadra, un gato y una avellanadora perforé cada punto de unión en los listones largos (por fuera, por donde vamos a meter los tornillos) para que estos quedaran bien encajados. Una vez hecho esto, perforé con una broca fina para "abrir" el camino al tornillo, ya que los listones son de pino y no muy gruesos, y era un poco arriesgado perforar con el tornillo directamente. { To hang it I needed to give it a structure, since I didn´t  want it to hang on the wall like a rag. So I went to the nearest wood centre and bought some pine strips of 2 x 1.5 cm. to make a stretcher. I measured and re-measured to make it perfectly tight and cut the strips. Don´t worry if the shorter strips differs some millimeter (1 or 2 mm. is normal if you cut them), because it will fit later with the screws. With the help of a squad, a jack and a countersink, I drilled each junction in the long strips (on the outside, where we'll put the screws) so  they fit it. Once done, I drilled with a thin drill to "open" a bit the way to the screw, since the pine slats are not very thick, and it was a bit risky to drill the screw directly. }

Y una vez hecha la estructura, sólo quedaba grapar la tela al bastidor estirando bien para que quedara tenso y las líneas verticales no se desviaran demasiado. Tengo que darle las gracias a Sergio porque me ayudó en todo y sin él no habría podido tensarlo ¡jamás! { And once made ​​the structure, I had just to staple the fabric to the stretcher to make it taut and vertical lines do not deviate too much. Here I have to thank Sergio because he helped me with everything and without him I could never have stretched it! }

¡Y aquí lo tenéis ya colgado! Y tengo que decir que parece un salón distinto, con  ballenas, barcos,  globos aerostáticos, bicicletas antiguas... Esa pared llevaba tanto tiempo esperando el compañero perfecto que ya me había acostumbrado a verla blanca y vacía. ¡Además queda taaan bien con mi árbol de navidad! He decidido que me gusta tanto que se va a quedar ahí. Le quitaré los pocos adornos que tiene de navidad y las luces y lo iré decorando acorde al paso de las estaciones. { And here you have it already hung up! And I have to say that it looks like a different living room with the whales, the vessels, the air balloons, old bicycles.... That wall took so long waiting for the perfect partner that I had already used to seeing white and empty. Furthermore, it looks sooo good with my Christmas tree! I've decided that I like so much that it is going to stay there. I will take away the few Christmas ornaments and lights and will decorate it according to the changing seasons. }

Perchero vintage con una vieja ventana decapada / Vintage coat hanger with an stripping old vindow

No lo podemos negar, ¡estamos perdidamente enamoradas de las ventanas viejas! Con ellas hemos hecho espejos, mesitas, cabeceros de cama y pizarras (os los enseñaremos en breve), y ahora, este maravilloso perchero. Tan fascinada he quedado con el resultado que he decidido sustituirlo por el que tenía en el recibidor que, aunque me encanta, es más pequeño y menos útil que éste. { We can´t deny it, we are madly in love with old windows! With them we have made mirrors, tables, headboards, chalkboards (we will teach them you soon), and now this wonderful coat hanger. I´m so fascinated with the result that I have replaced the one I had in the hall, which was smaller and less useful than this. }

La ventana original, bastante antigua, estaba teñida de nogalina y posteriormente pintada de un verde muy oscuro. Como nuestro estilo es mucho más actual, decidimos aprovechar esos colores de base y pintarla con un blanco roto, para lijarla después y conseguir ese efecto vintage con aires nórdicos que nos apasiona. { The original window, pretty old, was tinged with walnut stain and then painted with a dark green color. As our style is much more modern, we decided to take advantage of these basic colors and paint it with a dirty white and sand it later to get that vintage effect with Nordic style that we love. }

Ahora, cada vez que entro en casa y lo veo, no puedo evitar una sonrisilla de satisfacción. { Now, every time I enter home and see it, I can´t avoid a grin of satisfaction.}

Mesita de televisión vintage: Deco low cost / Low cost vintage TV table

Como ya os habréis dado cuenta, en HMMD nos encanta reciclar puertas y ventanas. En esta ocasión os traemos una mesa para televisión de estilo vintage hecha con dos contraventanas decapadas naturalmente por el paso del tiempo, un montón de viejos libros y unas ruedas. { As you may have noticed, in HMMD we love recycling doors and windows. This time we bring you a vintage TV table made ​​with two shutters, naturally worn by the time, a lot of old books and wheels. }

Este es el aspecto que presentaba cuando hicimos la prueba para ver cómo quedaría. Como se trataba de un espacio abuhardillado por las escaleras, teníamos que asegurarnos de que se veía perfecto, ni demasiado grande ni demasiado pequeño. {  This is the aspect it showed when we tried how it will look. As it was a sloping ceiling space down the stairs, we had to be sure it looked perfect, neither too big nor too small.}

Y así es como finalmente quedó.  { And this is how it finally looks. }

Como queríamos algo muy original para las patas, decidimos hacerlas con varios montones de Reader´s Digest que habíamos conseguido con mucha suerte (¡tenemos la colección completa desde el año cincuentaytantos!). Los colores de los libros le dan a la mesa un look totalmente único ya que cada portada es distinta, y la antigüedad le da ese toque tan vintage que nos enloquece. Al principio pensamos en perforarlos con una barra de hierro para darle estabilidad, pero nos daba muchísima pena porque son una maravilla, además de toda una lección de la historia reciente, y de la publicidad, de la España de la segunda mitad del siglo XX. { Since we looked for something very original for the legs, we decided to make them with a lot of Reader´s Digest we got time ago (we have the complet collection since the 50´s. The colors of the books give the table a completely unique look, as each cover is different, and gives that old vintage touch that turn we crazy. At the begining we thought of drilling them with an iron bar for giving stability, but it was a shame, because these books are really wonderful, as well as a wonderful history lesson, as well as of the advertising of Spain in the second half of the twentieth century. }

La verdad es que esta mesa tan especial es un lujo, y todo el que la ve se enamora al instante. ¡¡¡Yo estoy completamente in love!!! { The truth is that this so special table is a luxury, and everyone who sees it falls in love instantly. I´m totally in love!!! }

Armario de baño con encanto / Charming bathroom cabinet

Como ya sabéis, una de las cosas que más nos gustan en HMMD es restaurar muebles viejos y darles una nueva vida. Ese es el caso del mueble que os presentamos hoy: un antiguo armarito de madera al que hemos lavado la cara y reconvertido en un elemento con mucho encanto para un baño moderno (y pequeño). { As you know, one of the things we love in HMMD is restoring old furniture for giving a new life. This is the case of the piece we present today: an old wooden cabinet we have updated and turned into a charming element for a modern (and small) bathroom }

Calculamos que debe tener más de 50 años, lo cuál era perfecto para emparejarlo con el espejo que hicimos reciclando una ventana antigua. Así que no lo dudamos y nos pusimos con ello. Como veis estaba en buenas condiciones, aunque un poco sucio por el paso del tiempo. Pero nada que no se pudiera arreglar con un buen lijado y algún que otro arreglillo. Este fue el resultado: { We estimate it must be older than 50, which was perfect for pairing with the mirror we made from an old window. It was in good conditions, only a bit dirty by the passage of time. But nothing that couldn´t be fixed with a good sanding and some other arrangements. This was the result: }

Unas cestas y una jaula para almacenar los botes que se usan más a menudo completan este encantador mueble, dándole ese toque vintage que tanto nos gusta.  { Some baskets and a cage for storing the bottles and jars most often used complete this charming piece, giving it that vintage touch we love. }

Ahora decora un rincón que, por otra parte, era difícil de amueblar por el techo abuhardillado, proporcionando todo el espacio necesario en el baño. { Now it decorates a beautiful corner that was a bit difficult to furnish because of the sloping roof, providing plenty of space for storage in the bathroom }

HMMD Inspiration: ¡amor amor amor! / love love love!

Y la primera entrada DIY de esta nueva sección (HMMD Inspiration) se la dedicamos... ¡¡¡AL AMOR!!! Para todos aquellos que estéis enamorados (o para cuándo encontréis a esa persona con la que compartir vuestros besos, achuchones y amor), os presentamos una idea muy original y romántica: { And the first post of this new section (HMMD Inspiration) is dedicated... Espejo con una ventana antigua / Mirror from an old window

En HMMD nos apasiona reciclar y darle nueva vida a cosas antiguas que ya han cumplido su función como lo que eran. Ese es el caso de esta vieja ventanita reconvertida en espejo de baño. Junto con el mueble que también restauramos en HMMD, da un toque romántico a un entorno moderno que no pasa desapercibido. { In HMMD we love recycling and giving a new life to old things that have served their purpose for years. This is the case of this old window converted into bathroom mirror. Together with the cabinet restored also by us, they both create a romantic touch in a modern setting that doesn´t  go unnoticed } 

Fue ese gancho antiguo lo que nos enamoró. Cuando la encontramos en una casita vieja, parecía que nos estaba diciendo: ¡yo de mayor quiero ser espejo!. ¿No os encantan los detalles que hacen que siga siendo una ventana a pesar de todo? { That old hook was what won our heart. When we found it in an old and cute house, it looked like it was saying: I want to be a mirror! Don´t you love the details that make it a window after all?}

Esta ya tiene dueños, pero tenemos otras dos listas para vender en cuanto terminemos de restaurarlas ¡y más modelos que os encantarán!
